This is the very opening of the opera, which is not divided into acts. At the bottom of the Rhine river, the dwarf Alberich finds the three Rhine maidens guarding the Rhine Gold, which will eventually be stolen by Alberich and used to make a magical ring. (Do you remember the ring?)
