Puccini's La Boheme

This is the better known La Boheme by Puccini (there was a lesser known opera with the same name legoed by me in August). You can read about the opera here.

Here is the link to the Christmas Day broadcast.

The above scene shows Act 2, where our young Bohemians visit the Latin Quarter and see all the street vendors, including Parpignol with his toys.

The Barber of Seville

You can read about this opera here.

This is the finale of the first act. Count Almaviva is disguised as a drunken soldier, Rosina hands Basilio her laundry list, the others arrive, and the city watchmen are called to make an arrest.

Das Rheingold

Listen to the podcast here.

This is the very opening of the opera, which is not divided into acts. At the bottom of the Rhine river, the dwarf Alberich finds the three Rhine maidens guarding the Rhine Gold, which will eventually be stolen by Alberich and used to make a magical ring. (Do you remember the ring?)

Idomeneo

Listen to the podcast here.

This is my best attempt at a scene in Act 2, as Idomeneo stands at the port and sees a sea monster, which he takes to be an omen from the god Neptune.

This is my recreation of Desdemona's death in Act 4. Emilia is closest to us, wearing the "upset" lego face, which unfortunately I did not quite capture on camera.

Ruggiero Leoncavallo's La Boheme

Puccini's La Boheme is better-known, but Leoncavallo's La Boheme is still quite good.

Read about the opera here.

Listen to the podcast here.

This is an image from Act 2 of the opera, in which the Bohemians have a party in Musetta's courtyard because she has been more or less evicted from her house.
